HONG KONG SEVENS MARKS 50 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE

The Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens will return in spectacular fashion from April 17–19, 2026, celebrating its historic 50th anniversary at the stunning Kai Tak Sports Park.

From humble beginnings in 1976 with just 12 teams and 3,000 spectators, the tournament has evolved into the crown jewel of the HSBC SVNS World Series. This year it will host 30 elite men’s and women’s teams competing across 72 thrilling matches, alongside the exciting Melrose Claymores competition.

Legends have graced this iconic stage. From Waisale Serevi and David Campese to Christian Cullen and Ben Gollings, while Asian greats like Rowan Varty, Farid Rahman and Daisuke Ohata have inspired regional fans.

On the field, powerhouses like Fiji sevens team, with a record 19 titles, continue to define excellence. Off the field, the Sevens delivers its famous “world’s biggest rugby party”. A vibrant mix of costumes, music, and electric energy.

Organised by Hong Kong China Rugby, the 2026 edition promises not just rugby, but an unforgettable global celebration of sport, culture, and legacy.
