SOUTH AFRICA BEAT ARGENTINA IN RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP OPENER


South Africa showed why they are still the world number one by claiming another test win over Argentina at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. The 29-10 deserving victory marked a good start to their 2021 Rugby Championship campaign. The Rugby World Cup 2019 champions have now won five out of six test matches this year.

South Africa took control of the first half at Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. They dominated and pressured Argentina from the start. As a result, Handre Pollard kicked five penalties to give the Springboks a 15-3 lead at half time. Domingo Miotti scored the only three points for Los Pumas before the break.

When the match resumed, Argentina were more cautious. However, South Africa had a different approach towards their opponent. Makazole Mapimpi scored the first try from a Willie le Roux's pinpoint pass. In the 52nd minute, hooker Malcolm Marx broke into Argentina's area for the second try. Pollard made no mistake for the conversion as he scored a total of 19 points in the match.

Argentina did not give-up and played their best until the final minutes. Pablo Matera finally scored their only try in the added time. And Nicolas Sanchez delivered the last two points for the Los Pumas.
