HISTORIC DOUBLE BRONZE FOR SARAWAK RUGBY

The Sarawak Women’s Rugby Team has made an unforgettable impact in their debut Rugby 15s campaign by finishing third in both the Selangor Rugby League and the Selangor Rugby cup competition. They secured their second bronze medal after defeating KL Tigers 31-10, a powerful and confident performance to cap off a breakthrough season.

The squad consists of 50 passionate Sarawakians, students and working adults from UNIMAS, UiTM Samarahan, Kuching, Sibu, and Miri. Some players are even based in Sabah and West Malaysia but remain committed to proudly representing Sarawak. With regular training held in Kuching and Samarahan, and remote fitness programs for others, the team stayed united through virtual coordination and shared determination.

Guided by coaches Sylvia Alexander Lian, Stephen Patrick, and Shahradhi Libiki, and managed by Fazira Adha Safree Zainudin and Mohd Ikmal Hisham, the team delivered strong performances throughout. Standout players like Josie Mavcellina, Valerie Juan, Cuthberta Entai, Alister Long Lihan, and Sharon Sim Lili displayed skill and heart. Emerging stars like Elestie Lavinia, Winnie Cralisia, Erina Tasha, Marissa Ruth, and Lowenskee Chasing Kasan show Sarawak’s future in rugby is promising.

This double podium finish marks a significant milestone for Sarawak Rugby Union in their first-ever Rugby 15s championship. Their relentless spirit, unity, and fearless play have not only earned them medals, they’ve earned the respect of Malaysian rugby.
