SAMOA AND BELGIUM TRIUMPH IN DUBAI OPENER


Samoa began their quest for a spot at the 2027 Rugby World Cup with a dominant 48-10 win over Brazil in the opening match of the Final Qualification Tournament in Dubai. Full-back Jacob Umaga opened the scoring early and added points with his boot before Brazil hit back through Theo Bastardie after a Samoan yellow card.

Manu Samoa regained control with tries from Tumua Manu, Va'afauese Apelu Maliko, Melani Nanai, Iakopo Petelo-Mapu and another from Manu. Despite Brazil’s late effort through Henrique Ferreira, Samoa’s composure and class sealed a convincing victory to start their qualification campaign in style.


Belgium delivered a stunning performance to defeat Rugby World Cup regulars Namibia 22-15 in Dubai, keeping their qualification hopes alive. Inspired by their passionate supporters, the Black Devils controlled the match from start to finish, dominating possession and disrupting Namibia’s rhythm through superb defence and breakdown pressure. Jean-Baptiste Declercq’s early try and fly-half Matias Remue’s precision kicking gave Belgium a strong platform as they led 17-0 at halftime.

Namibia fought back with two late tries from Johan Deysel and Johan Luttig, but Belgium’s composure and teamwork proved decisive. Captain Jean-Maurice Decubber’s leadership and a crucial late try sealed a historic victory, pushing Belgium one step closer to their Rugby World Cup dream.
