BLACK FERNS DOMINATE, BLITZBOKS DELIVER POWER

The Perth Sevens delivered another weekend of high drama as New Zealand’s Black Ferns Sevens and South Africa’s Blitzboks stamped their authority on the HSBC SVNS Series with thrilling title victories.
In the women’s final, the Black Ferns Sevens once again proved they have Australia’s number, defeating the hosts 29-7 to claim their third title of the season. Having already conquered Dubai and Singapore, New Zealand made it three wins from three against Australia this year, opening up a four-point lead at the top of the series standings.

While the scoreline suggested dominance, the contest was fiercely contested. Australia battled bravely, pushing the defending champions throughout the final. However, two crucial tries either side of halftime from Player of the Final Kelsey Teneti swung momentum decisively New Zealand’s way. From there, the Black Ferns showed composure and class to close out another statement win. France secured bronze after edging the USA in a punishing playoff, Hawa Tounkara’s late try sealing a hard-earned victory.

The men’s final was equally intense as South Africa outmuscled Fiji in a bruising encounter to lift their second title of the season and their first on Australian soil in over a decade. After an early Blitzboks surge was reeled in, Ryan Oosthuizen produced the defining moment, powering through three defenders for the match-winning try. Earlier, Australia claimed third place in a fiery Trans-Tasman clash, Josh Turner’s decisive try completing a dramatic 12-10 comeback.
