BANGLADESH ARMY AND ANSAR CLAIM SEVENS TITLES


The Independence Day Rugby Sevens Championship 2026 delivered a thrilling day of action as it concluded successfully at the Paltan Outer Stadium on 10 April. Organised by the Bangladesh Rugby Federation Union, the tournament kicked off at 10 a.m. and kept fans entertained until the final whistle at 4:00 p.m.

A total of eight teams battled across 12 fast-paced matches, showcasing energy, skill and determination in both the men’s and women’s competitions. In the men’s category, Bangladesh Army proved their dominance, powering their way to the title, while SR Rugby Club settled for a well-earned runners-up finish.


The women’s division saw Bangladesh Ansar rise to the occasion, displaying composure and teamwork to secure the championship. SR Rugby Club once again showed consistency, finishing as runners-up.

Individual brilliance also lit up the tournament. Anwaruzzaman of Bangladesh Army was named Best Player in the men’s category, while Mohsina Lata of Bangladesh Ansar earned the same honour in the women’s division.

The closing ceremony was graced by National Sports Council Director of Sports, Aminul Ahsan, who presented trophies and medals. He was joined by Bangladesh Rugby Federation Union President Abdullah Al Zahir Swapan, along with vice presidents Anis Uz Zaman and Abu Mohammad Sajjad, marking a fitting end to a vibrant celebration of rugby.
