SOUTH AFRICA BEAT BRITISH & IRISH LIONS IN CAPE TOWN

South Africa ended the British and Irish Lions unbeaten run with a 17-13 victory in Cape Town today. After taking a strong 17-3 lead in the first half, the Springboks defends were heavily tested in the next 40 minutes. The host were packed with 11 members from the 2019 World Cup winning team.

South Africa opened the scoring with a penalty by Morne Steyn in the 5th minute. Seven minutes later Sbu Nkosi broke through the British and Irish Lions defence for a try and Steyn scored the conversion. In the 27th minute, Owen Farrell made no mistake to score a penalty for the Lions.

The Springboks were on fire again after the half hour mark. Cheslin Kolbe made a brilliant move before passing to captain Lukhanyo Am for the try. Steyn stretched South Africa lead to 17-3 with the conversion. However, minutes before the break Faf de Klerk and Marco van Staden were sent to the sinbin from two separate incidents.

The Lions were more organised after the break. Three minutes after the restart, Wyn Jones got the first try for his team and Farrell completed the conversion. In the 50th minute, Farrel delivered another three points from another penalty goal. Both sides had their opportunities in the final 30 minutes of the match, but the score remained until the final whistle.
