SOUTH AFRICA EDGE BRITISH & IRISH LIONS TO WIN SERIES

South Africa edged the British & Irish Lions 19-16 in the third test match to win the Lions Tour Series in Cape Town. After losing the first test 17-22, the Springboks bounced back to win the second with an impressive 27-9 score. The final test was the toughest as the Lions held on until the last minute.

Handre Pollard gave South Africa the lead from a penalty goal in the 11th minute. British & Irish Lions equalised four minutes later from a penalty taken by Finn Russel. In the 18th minute, Ken Owens put the Lions ahead with a try. However, Pollard gave Springboks a fighting hope from another penalty. The Lions lead 10-6 at half-time.

South Africa came back strongly after the break. In the 56th minute, Cheslin Kolbe broke into the opponents try area to regain the lead. Russel scored another two penalties for the Lions, but Morne Steyn also scored a brace to give the Springboks the victory.

It was an interesting test series despite playing in empty stadium. Two wins out of three proved that the World Champions are still at their best since 2019. The red jerseys will be kept for the next four years, before they play together again in 2025 for the tour to Australia.
