PDRM TRIUMPHS OVER JOHOR IN AGONG CUP FINAL


In an exhilarating display of skill and determination, PDRM rugby team triumphed over Johor with a decisive 43-29 victory to secure their fifth Agong Cup title. The final, held at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam, showcased not only the talent of the players but also the strategic brilliance of the coaching staff.

The match began with both teams demonstrating their prowess, resulting in a closely contested first half. PDRM held a slim lead of 19-17 as they headed into the break, setting the stage for an intense second half. However, it was the Police who came out with renewed vigor, displaying an impressive attacking strategy that overwhelmed their opponents.

Despite a late surge from Johor, who managed to score two tries in the final 10 minutes, the PDRM maintained control of the match. A pivotal moment came when Johor’s Serupepeli Turuva received a red card in the 78th minute for a high tackle, further complicating Johor's efforts to stage a comeback.

The Police team demonstrated remarkable teamwork, with standout performances from Ameer Nasrul ZulkeffliTaniela SenilebaKitone Taliga, and Hariz Hamidon, who each crossed the try line. Hariz Hamidon made a particularly impactful contribution with two tries. Amirul Aqil Kamsol was flawless in his kicking, converting all five tries and adding a penalty to his tally.


On the other side, Johor fought valiantly, with tries from Keponi PaulAkeripa SaveatamaSyarif Muzhaimey, and Serupepeli. Fairuz AB Rahman converted two tries and added a penalty, but it wasn't enough to secure a victory.

PDRM head coach K. Dinesvaran, who celebrated the win with a beaming smile, has now made history by winning the Agong's Cup as both a player and a coach. Dinesvaran previously captained the Police team to victory last year before retiring, making this win particularly sweet for him.

The Police team has a storied history in the Agong's Cup, having previously won in 1983, 1985, 1991, and 2022. Their journey to the final this year included a convincing 29-10 victory over Perlis in the quarterfinals, followed by a 33-20 win against Terengganu in the semifinals.

Johor's road to the final included impressive wins over Perak (30-10) and Selangor (24-17). Meanwhile, in the third-place playoff held on the same day, Terengganu edged past Selangor in a nail-biting 43-39 finish.

With this latest triumph, the Police rugby team continues to cement its legacy in Malaysian rugby, demonstrating resilience and teamwork that will be remembered for years to come.
