PHILIPPINES MAKE HISTORY WITH DOUBLE GOLD AT ASIA RUGBY SEVENS TROPHY


The Philippines men's and women's rugby teams have made history by both clinching gold medals at the Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy tournament in Nepal. This remarkable achievement highlights the teams' dedication, skill, and hard work, as they delivered exceptional performances throughout the competition.

In the men's final, the Volcanoes faced off against Chinese Taipei in a thrilling match that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. With precise execution and outstanding teamwork, they secured a convincing victory with a score of 27-12, showcasing their speed and tactical prowess.

In the third-place decider, Sri Lanka bounced back from their semifinal disappointment to beat Uzbekistan 32-0. The Tuskers dominated the match from the outset, after losing to the Philippines 19-12 in the last four. Philippines' Dayton Iobu and Bahrain's Gregory Heath were the stars of the tournament, as each of them contributed 35 points for their teams.


In the women’s category, the Philippines team showed their strength in every match. In a nail-biting final against India, they triumphed with a 7-5 victory. Their passion and determination earned them the gold medal they richly deserved.

In the battle for third place, Guam edged Indonesia 22-19 in a closely contested match. Despite Indonesia’s efforts, they couldn’t secure the win, leaving Guam to celebrate their victory. Vanessa Cifuentes of the Philippines is the best women player in Kathmandu after scoring 30 points from 6 tries. The double victories will see both the Philippines men's and women's teams feature in the Asia Rugby Sevens Series next year.
