SSTMI TSUNAMI STRIKE AGAIN AS CUP CHAMPIONS

Melaka was rocking as the Chief Minister Cup 2025 took over Hang Tuah Stadium for three days of pure rugby chaos. With 37 teams battling and about 3,000 people coming and going, the place was buzzing with energy, sweat, and probably a few bruises.

In the Men’s Open, the young and fearless SSTMI Tsunami crashed over the experienced Driller Oldboys 19–5. Coach Syed Syazril deserves a medal for unleashing kids who played like superheroes. Fun fact: they also won the Melaka International Rugby 10s here last year. Clearly, this is their playground. IIUM Mustangs grabbed third after smashing Nosta RU 22–0.

The Women’s Open final was all Terengganu power as Hanelang Ladies beat Melaka Vixens 17–7. For third place, ATM Ladies flew past Daisies RC 24–5, proving the army always brings firepower.

The U20 Cup was a nail-biter. SSMP Falcons squeezed past KPMBP Ravens 5–0. Meanwhile, Oasis RC and Melaka U20 played to a scoreless draw, so a coin toss decided it. Yes, rugby gods love drama and Melaka took third!

Veterans showed they’ve still got it as Otai JLJ flattened Old Dragons 24–0. X-Moruc claimed third, leaving SDAR Lions Veteran in fourth.

The U15 boys final saw Tun Hussein Onn School (THOR) hammer Victoria Institution (VI) 10–0. Semashur settled for third, while Seri Mersing bravely finished fourth.

Best moment? At midnight on Day 2, everyone stopped, sang the national anthem for Merdeka, and then enjoyed fireworks. Rugby, patriotism, and pyrotechnics, what a combo! To wrap it up, Datuk P. Shanmugam and Datuk Hameed Mytheen were sporting enough to join the fun, cheer with the crowd, and personally hand out the prizes to the winners.
