The curtain came down on an electrifying Asia Rugby Sevens Series 2025 in Colombo, where Hong Kong’s men and Japan’s women emerged as the ultimate champions after two thrilling legs of competition.
Played before a roaring crowd at the historic Racecourse Stadium, the final leg in Sri Lanka delivered everything rugby fans could hope for, speed, passion, and pure entertainment. In the men’s final, Hong Kong edged Japan 12–7 in a nail-biting showdown, sealing the overall series title after also winning the first leg in Hangzhou, China. Sri Lanka, powered by the tournament’s top points scorer, Srinath Sooriyabandara, claimed a hard-fought 19–14 victory over China to finish third on home soil.
In the women’s division, Japan stamped their dominance once again, defeating China 29–0 in the Colombo final to secure back-to-back leg victories and the overall championship. Thailand took third place after edging Hong Kong 10–5 in a close contest.
With 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams lighting up the 2025 series, the excitement was unmatched. For Hong Kong, the triumph also brings qualification to the prestigious World Rugby SVNS 3. A proud milestone for Asian rugby.
