KAZAKHSTAN AND UZBEKISTAN REIGN SUPREME IN MUSCAT


The roar of rugby returned to West Asia as Muscat hosted the Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy 2025 on October 25–26, marking a vibrant celebration of international rugby. Supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the two-day tournament combined thrilling action, warm Omani hospitality, and world-class sporting facilities, reaffirming Oman’s rising presence on the regional rugby map.

The men’s competition featured 13 nations battling fiercely for glory. In the final, Kazakhstan emerged dominant, outclassing India 27–0 with a brilliant blend of speed, skill, and structure. Afghanistan edged Saudi Arabia 17–12 to secure third place after a tense playoff. Individual brilliance lit up the tournament. Greg Heath of Bahrain and Omar Arnous of Lebanon shared the top points honor with 42 points each, while Kazakhstan’s Nikita Sitov proved unstoppable with eight tries and a total of 40 points.


The women’s category, featuring five nations, brought equal excitement. Uzbekistan triumphed with a confident 17–7 victory over Iran in the final, while South Korea sealed third by defeating Jordan 17–0. Uzbekistan’s star Aynura Abzieva dazzled the crowd, scoring 42 points, while South Korea’s Hyesu Jang impressed with seven tries and 37 points.

The 2025 Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy not only crowned new champions but also symbolized the sport’s rapid growth and unity across Asia. A spirited reminder that rugby’s heartbeat continues to grow stronger in every corner of the continent.
