The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) once again stamped their authority as Malaysia’s rugby powerhouse after edging a fierce Johor side 18-17 in a nail-biting Piala Agong final at UM Arena on Sunday.
In a showdown that kept fans on the edge of their seats, PDRM displayed nerves of steel to capture their third consecutive title. A true testament to their dominance in the country’s most prestigious rugby competition.
The defending champions crossed the line twice through Owen Niue and Danial Noor Hamidi, while Amirul Aqil Kamsol delivered under pressure with two crucial penalties and a match-winning conversion in the dying moments.
Johor, coached by former All Black Rodney So’oialo, fought valiantly. Their tries came from Sae Faalupega and Serupepeli Turuva, with Aqasha Daniel Irwan adding a conversion and a penalty to keep the Southern Tigers within striking distance until the final whistle.
The clash was a thrilling rematch of the 2024 final, where PDRM triumphed over Johor at UiTM Stadium. A year earlier, in 2023, PDRM had also claimed the championship after defeating Putrajaya. Amirul Aqil was named the Best Player of the final, capping off an outstanding season in which he scored 87 points for PDRM, contributed through 24 conversions and 13 penalties
