Samoa sealed their place at the 2027 Men’s Rugby World Cup in dramatic fashion, holding Belgium to a tense 13-13 draw in the decisive match of the Final Qualification Tournament in Dubai on Tuesday.
With earlier victories over Brazil and Namibia, Manu Samoa entered the final clash knowing a draw would be enough to claim the last remaining ticket to Australia. Belgium pushed them to the limit, but Samoa’s composure under pressure secured the result they needed. They officially completing the 24-team line-up for the expanded World Cup.
Their qualification marks Samoa’s 10th consecutive Rugby World Cup appearance, a proud run that stretches back to 1991. Ranked 17th in the world, they now shift focus to the Rugby World Cup 2027 Draw, scheduled for 3 December in Sydney, where their pool opponents will be revealed.
RWC 2027, running from 1 October to 13 November in Australia, introduces a new format featuring 24 teams, six pools, and a round of 16, promising the biggest global showcase the sport has ever seen.
Samoa’s qualification also earns them a place in the new World Rugby Nations Cup launching in 2026, joining 11 other nations in a landmark competition designed to boost high-level fixtures ahead of the World Cup.
