Champions were crowned and promotion secured as the HSBC SVNS 3 tournament in Dubai delivered drama, pace and breakthrough moments across both competitions. South Africa’s women and Canada’s men emerged as title winners, capping impressive campaigns with statement victories under the desert lights.
South Africa completed an unbeaten run by edging Argentina 12–5 in a tense women’s final. Argentina struck first through Maria Taladrid and defended bravely despite a yellow card, but momentum swung after the break. Zintle Mpupha levelled before a second Argentina yellow proved costly, allowing Patience Mokone to strike late and seal the title. Earlier, South Africa powered past Poland 36–5, while Argentina’s 22–12 comeback win over Czechia, inspired by Marianela Escalante, ensured both finalists secured promotion.
In the men’s final, Canada overcame Belgium despite an early yellow card disrupting the contest. Lachlan Kratz led the charge, scoring twice and converting consistently as Canada pulled clear in the second half for a deserved victory. Belgium showed resilience, but Canada’s composure told.
Elsewhere, Czechia, Colombia, Samoa and Madagascar impressed in playoff battles, underlining the growing depth of global sevens. With Nairobi next, momentum and belief now travel with the champions.
