SPANISH IBERIANS SEAL RUGBY EUROPE SUPER CUP

Castilla y León Iberians crowned a memorable 2025/26 campaign by lifting the Rugby Europe Super Cup after a commanding 42-17 victory over Portugal’s Lusitanos in Saturday’s final.

Played at the National Rugby Center in Amsterdam, the showpiece decider saw the Spanish side underline their quality with a powerful, composed performance from start to finish. Iberians struck early through scrum-half Tani Bay and No.8 Vicente Boronat, opening a 10-3 lead before centre Iñaki Mateu added a penalty on the half-hour. Moments later, a sweeping team move, sparked by Bay and finished by lock Pablo Guirao extended the advantage to 18-3 at the break, with Lusitanos reduced to 14 men.

The Iberians capitalised immediately after half-time as substitute John Wessel Bell crossed, before full-back Beltrán Ortega’s eighth try of the competition pushed the score further out. Multiple yellow cards disrupted Lusitanos’ resistance, including a penalty try conceded midway through the second half.

Despite late consolation scores from Afonso Tapadinhas, the outcome was never in doubt. Captain Matthew Foulds praised his side’s dominance up front, highlighting a maul and scrum that provided the platform for a deserved title triumph.

Earlier, Delta thrilled the Amsterdam crowd by edging Brussels Devils 36-31 to claim bronze.
