FIJI AND BLACK FERNS RULE SINGAPORE


Fiji and New Zealand lit up Singapore with statement victories as the HSBC SVNS Series delivered a weekend packed with drama, rivalry and raw emotion.

Fiji’s men produced another unforgettable comeback, edging France 21–12 in a pulsating final to lift their first title of the season and a second straight crown in Singapore. France stunned the crowd by racing to a 12–0 halftime lead through Jordan Sepho and Paulin Riva, but Fiji’s trademark flair soon ignited. Tries from Viwa Naduvalo, Kavekini Tanivanuakula and Pilipo Bukayaro swung the momentum, sealing a comeback that underlined Fiji’s reputation as sevens’ great entertainers. Player of the match Naduvalo described Singapore as feeling “like home”, while captain Jeremaia Matana praised his side’s belief after battling past South Africa, New Zealand and France.

New Zealand claimed third place after edging South Africa, with Australia finishing fifth.


In the women’s competition, the Black Ferns Sevens were simply unstoppable. They dismantled arch-rivals Australia 36–7 to secure a third consecutive Singapore title, delivering a poignant triumph dedicated to victims of recent Mount Maunganui landslides. Jazmin Felix-Hotham and Jorja Miller starred as New Zealand amassed 218 tournament points. Canada claimed third with an extra-time win over USA, rounding off a spectacular Singapore showcase.
