New Zealand and South Africa strengthened their grip on the HSBC SVNS Series after commanding performances at Vancouver’s BC Place, setting the stage for a thrilling finale to the regular season in New York.
South Africa’s Blitzboks produced a flawless campaign to capture the Vancouver title, adding it to their triumphs in Perth and Cape Town this season. The victory propelled them to the top of the men’s standings, level on points with Fiji. It also marked South Africa’s first tournament win in Canada since the Covid-shortened series held in Edmonton in 2021.
Blitzboks captain Impi Visser praised his team’s resilience and consistency after another dominant display. With six squad changes since Perth, Visser said the focus was on maintaining momentum heading into New York, the final stop before the World Championship series.
Fiji maintained their remarkable consistency with a fifth podium finish in as many tournaments, defeating Australia to secure third place. Meanwhile, Argentina bounced back from a difficult opening day to finish fifth after previously winning four straight Vancouver titles.
In the women’s competition, New Zealand’s Black Ferns Sevens continued their dominance at BC Place, claiming their fourth title in five events this season. Captain Risi Pouri-Lane highlighted the squad’s commitment to constant improvement.
Elsewhere, USA secured third place against France, while hosts Canada delighted home fans by finishing fifth.
