BLITZBOKS, BLACK FERNS TRIUMPH AT HONG KONG SEVENS


The Hong Kong Sevens marked its historic 50-year anniversary in spectacular fashion as packed crowds filled Kai Tak Sports Park for an unforgettable weekend of world-class rugby.

Fans were treated to three days of electrifying action as New Zealand and South Africa emerged as champions in the latest leg of the HSBC SVNS World Championship series. The celebrations were matched by record-breaking support, with 41,457 fans on Saturday alone, the highest single-day attendance in the tournament’s history.


In the women’s final, New Zealand edged fierce rivals Australia 19–14 in a thrilling encounter, securing their fourth consecutive Hong Kong title. The Black Ferns Sevens once again proved their class, with standout performances keeping them firmly on top of the world stage.

The men’s final saw South Africa deliver a statement performance, overpowering defending champions Argentina 35–7. It was a historic breakthrough for the Blitzboks, who claimed their first-ever Hong Kong Sevens title, ending years of near misses.


Elsewhere, France’s women and Spain’s men secured bronze medals with strong performances in their respective play-offs. With a festival atmosphere, passionate fans, and unforgettable matches, the golden jubilee edition of the Hong Kong Sevens truly lived up to its legendary status.
