South Africa may have left Bordeaux without a podium finish, but the Blitzboks ended the HSBC SVNS season exactly where they belonged, at the top of the world.
Despite suffering a surprise 40-14 defeat to Spain in the third-place playoff, South Africa's remarkable body of work throughout the season ensured they were crowned overall HSBC SVNS World Champions. After collecting an incredible 37 victories and five tournament titles, the Blitzboks finished comfortably atop the standings with 54 points.
Their journey to the crown was built on consistency, resilience, and moments of brilliance. South Africa dominated the series, capturing four consecutive tournament titles between Perth in February and their historic first-ever Hong Kong triumph, before adding another championship to underline their supremacy.
At the heart of that success was the outstanding Tristan Leyds, whose influence throughout the campaign earned him the Men's SVNS Player of the Year award. Equally dangerous as a playmaker and finisher, Leyds consistently delivered when it mattered most, unlocking defences and scoring crucial points from Dubai all the way to Bordeaux.
While South Africa celebrated the overall title, Spain also enjoyed a breakthrough season. Their impressive victory in Bordeaux capped a campaign that featured two top-three finishes and a superb third-place overall ranking with 42 points.
New Zealand finished second on 44 points, while Argentina and Fiji shared fourth place with 38 points each.
As the curtain falls on another thrilling SVNS season, one fact stands above all others: the Blitzboks were the team everyone chased, and ultimately, the team nobody could catch.
