Hang Tuah Stadium came alive once again as the Melaka Chief Minister Cup 2026 delivered two days of hard-hitting rugby action, fierce battles and unforgettable Merdeka celebrations.
Organised by Melaka Rugby on 29 and 30 August, the tournament brought together 14 top Men’s teams and eight Veterans teams from across Malaysia, creating a powerful showcase of experience, youth and rugby pride.
In the Men’s Open final, Beringin Rendang RC produced a determined performance to defeat Drillers Oldboys 12–5 and lift the coveted Cup. SMS Oldboys finished third after edging Highlanders 10–5 in the third-place playoff.
Defending champions SSTMI Tsunami may have missed out on the Cup this time, but they still finished strongly by claiming the Plate after crushing PMM Hornets 54–7.

The Veterans competition belonged to JLJ Otai, who dominated Black Water Oldboys 26–0 in the final. K.R.A.S secured third place with a 12–5 victory over X-Moruc.
And then came the moment that has become a special tradition at Hang Tuah Stadium.
At midnight on the eve of 31 August, players, officials and spectators gathered for the Merdeka countdown. As the clock struck midnight, everyone celebrated Malaysia’s National Day together, followed by a spectacular fireworks display.
